History

In 1985, Katherine Manley founded Epilepsy Kingston after her daughter, Jessica, was diagnosed with epilepsy. Driven by her family’s struggle to navigate the condition and find reliable resources, Katherine established the organization to ensure others wouldn’t face the same fear and confusion alone.

Initially based in the Manley family’s basement, Epilepsy Kingston quickly gained community support and relocated to Kidd House at 100 Stuart St., where it operated until April 2016. Today, we are located at 993 Princess St., Unit 14-Suite 1430.

The organization expanded its services to Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Counties, Leeds & Grenville County, Hastings, Tyendinaga and Prince Edward County. In 2009, to reflect the broader region served, we became the Epilepsy & Seizure Disorder Resource Centre of Southeastern Ontario, and in 2015, we shortened our name to Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario. We continue to grow, providing essential support to individuals and families impacted by epilepsy and seizure disorders throughout the region.
